How To Be And Stay Grounded

Humans are so focused on everything going faster and faster and we always have to be stimulated. This clutters our minds, let our thoughts take over and pain grow in our body. Actually being grounded and just being is something very few people experience today because of the constant noise. Grounding to me is a feeling of home. Peaceful. A place where I would like to be all the time. Inner peace. In the moment and nowhere else. This post is very inspired by the 'The Power of Now' written by Eckhard Tolle. Hope you like it!

Be present
I think the number one tip I have and the key to being grounded is to be present. Actually be in the moment of now, no matter where you are or what your life situation is. I just finished reading Eckhart Tolle's book 'The Power of Now' and it is life changing. To be in the moment, to let go of the past, the future, the constant thoughts and just be, that is what this book is all about. Being present is being grounded. This book opens your being to the fact that you are not your thoughts, you are not your pain. You are nothing but conscious awareness.

A couple of things you can do to practice being present:

Feel your body. When was the last time you actually felt your body? Here I don't mean pain or discomfort, I mean feel the life and the vibration of your entire body. You cannot feel your body and not be present. Focus on your fingertips, your feet, your arms, your legs and everything else. Feel the life within your skin while you breathe.
Observe. So many people have constant thoughts and think that the thoughts are who they are. Thoughts are not just a part of them, the thoughts are them. But thoughts are something you can turn off. Do not fight them, instead observe them, do not analyze or judge them. Witness the Being, your awareness and go into the Being that observes the thoughts. This is you. The being, the peace, the love, is you. Observe your surroundings and be present.
Breath. I have talked about focusing on your breath before and it is amazing to experience the present. When you focus on your breath going in and out you are not able to also think at the same time. Use your breath as a tool to be present. Breathe in through your nose all the way down to your stomach and slowly breathe out through your mouth.

Practice silence
We live in a world where noises are a constant. Where everyone has to always do something and be stimulated constantly. Just being in silence doing nothing is rare. Practice silence and it will bring you closer to Being, to who you are. It will help you stay grounded
Listen. I love to sit outside and just observe nature, listening to the sounds, the birds, the wind but also to silence. Notice the silence and the fact that you are able to turn off the mind. Sitting and just being is incredibly grounding. You can observe but you can also meditate. Read my meditation tips here
Walk. If you find it hard to sit because the thoughts keep trying to bring you back to the constant noise, try walking. Your thoughts and your mind are not able to keep up with you when you walk. This has really helped me turning off the noise and just be, observe and listen. Something that also helps me connect to myself and stay grounded is walking around barefoot in our garden, to feel the soft grass and observe my surroundings.

Do things mindfully
We are taught to have a million things going on at the same time and it feels like we can never relax. Make it a habit to do things mindfully. To take things one thing at a time. Eat when you eat. Read when you read. Drive when you drive. Cook when you cook. Be present in what you are doing.
Slow down. A thing that also helps with doing things mindfully is to slow down. Go into what you are doing with all of your focus and being. Slowing down, doing one thing at a time, feeling and focusing on what you are doing is so helpful to being grounded.

Use visions to ground yourself. I like to place my feet on the ground imagine roots growing into the ground from my feet and feel myself being in the present. Use your inner eye to connect with the ground under and around you. You can also use light or colors to ground and protect yourself. Close your eyes and imagine a white light or the color that comes to you around you like a shield.

Be creative
Creativity in flow is an amazing way to connect with the earth and the present moment to ground yourself. It can be in the form of writing, painting or drawing but it can also be dancing, creating music or any other projects you are working on - any way to be creative without the self doubt is connecting you to earth and yourself. Your passions are your creativity coming to life. Your creative passions are expressing yourself and your soul being who you are.
