How To Use Rhassoul Clay As Shampoo + The Benefits

I haven't used a regular shampoo for about a year and a half now and to be honest I love it! Instead I have been using rhassoul clay to help clean my hair. Clay? As Shampoo? How? That's what today's post is about plus the benefits I have experienced since I started using it. Other than the transitioning period where your hair and scalp is cleansing and getting used to taking care of itself it is just like using regular shampoo.. well, kind of.. the clay is natural and you mix it yourself. Let's get into how to use it:

So how do I use it?
First off, the clay must not come in contact with metal because if it does, a chemical reaction will happen and many of the amazing qualities of rhassoul will be neutralized. Use glass or bamboo utensils to store and mix the clay.

Before going in the shower, pour some clay in to a little glass bowl and cover it with water. I use 5 tbsp clay and cover it with water for a medium consistency - not too thin, not too thick. If you want another consistency add more or less water. Shake the bowl back and forth a few times to mix the water and clay together. Let it sit for about five to ten minutes until the clay has soaked the water. The clay will now have a creamy consistency and is ready to be used.

Wet your hair well, take some clay in to your hands and rub your hands together. Then distribute it into your hair. Then take some more clay and continue until your hair is covered. Here it is nice to give your scalp a light massage. Let it sit in your hair for a few seconds and then rinse well, giving your scalp a massage. To treat your hair even more finish off by rinsing your hair in cold water.

The clay can be quite messy so give your bathroom a quick rinse after you are done with your shower.

What are the benefits?

No irritation - My scalp is not itchy or irritated. My scalp used to be so itchy which has totally disappeared while using clay.

Softer and stronger hair - If you want the softest hair this is what to use! My hair has never been this soft and strong. I have not been to a hairdresser since last year and my hair is still silky soft and split end free.

No frizz - I have always had a problem with super frizzy hair and I have tried oils and no sulfate shampoos but nothing has worked as good as rhassoul. It is frizz-free and I love it!

Less oily - I have always had oily hair - or at least an oily scalp. It would be oily the day after I showered. Not fun. But after using this for a couple of months my hair has gotten used to cleaning itself and that has really helped with the oiliness!

No need for products - Since starting a product free personal care routine I have obviously not used any hair products and I haven't had the need to. There is more structure and it is easier to style if I want to do something with it.

More volume - So much more volume it is crazy! If I want volume I can just puff it up with my hands and voila; volume for days. It is amazing the difference it makes from a regular shampoo.

Thicker - My hair feels so much thicker (and healthier) and that may be because of the lack of chemicals and products since only using this clay. + As mentioned before there is way more structure which makes it easier to works with.

Better for the environment - You are not washing chemicals down the drain. It is a natural products from nature.

Tip: Make a little bit more of the clay than just to use as shampoo and use the rest as a face (and body) cleanser. Let it sit on your skin for a couple of minutes and rinse it off while massaging your skin.
