Be The Change You Wish To See
I believe
that in order to make changes in this world you need to be the change you wish
to see. The change starts with you. Don't wait for someone else to come along
to start for you and if you choose to wait you will be waiting for a long time.
And if you think one person can't make a difference, think again. Every single
movement ever created, every single change ever made in this world started with
an individual with an idea, with the will to make a difference. The only way to
start a movement, to start the change is to be it. Be the change you wish to
see.
I am the
change I wish to see...
… so I don't buy fast fashion because the
industry harms the people working in the dangerous factories, it hurts the
planet and the people living around the factories. Women are being harassed and
assaulted by their employers and work 12 hours if not more every day for a pay
that does not come even close to fair. The industry is destroying the planet,
in fact that it is the second most polluting industry second only to oil. The
clothing you buy in fast fashion stores, the cheap clothing you buy just
because, does so much more harm than you could ever imagine.
I want to
live in a world with fair living wages, fair hours, fair and safe work
environments, more sustainability and focus on the planet and the people on it
so I don't buy fast fashion.
… so I don't eat animals because no one has to
die in order for me to thrive. I don't want to pay for the cruelty ending up on
my plate, I don't want to support an industry where animals are slaughtered
when they want to live. There is no such thing as humane slaughter. When someone
wants to live you cannot kill them in a humane way - it does not exist. All
animals ending up on a plate is cruelty and I no longer want to pay people to slaughter innocent beings wanting to
live.
I want to
live in a world where no animal has to die for a meal and I no longer support
an industry where I pay for cruelty so I stopped eating animals.
… so I don't buy animals products, wear animals
or buy any products with animals ingredients or any by-products that have been
tested on animal because no one should be exploited for profit. We live in a
world where people no longer think of animals as someone
but objects we can use however we like. Animals are no longer being
considered at all, they are just inanimate objects to use as we please in any
way we can.
I want to
live in a world where no animal has to suffer at the hands of humans so I
stopped buying animal products.
… so I do my best to avoid plastic because in
2050 there will be more plastic in the world than there will be fish. Plastic
is currently killing the sea life in a horrible and painful way. Fish and other
sea animals, even birds, ingest the toxic material, either thinking that it's
food or because they eat another animal that has eaten plastic. Once plastic is
made it will stay on the planet forever. It does not degrade, it breaks down
into micro plastic which is incredibly toxic to the eco system. The water
around some countries is swimming in plastic, so much you cannot even see the
water.
I want a
world where plastic does not harm animals or humans so I do my best to avoid
the dangerous material.
… so I think before I purchase. We live in a why
not? society when it comes to consuming where we don't
think about the consequences of the (impulse) purchases we make or the
consequences of consuming way more than we need. Because what's the harm - it's
just a shirt for 2 dollars, right? Surely that cheap shirt we buy on sale only
to end up in the back of our closet does no harm. Wrong. It takes
over 2000 almost 3000 liters of water to produce a single t-shirt which is
about how much water you
drink in over three years. In
USA, 10,5 million tons of clothing is sent to landfills every year. Only around
20 % of clothing is recycled each year, instead the clothing end up in big
piles in poor third world countries we have made into our own landfills - out
of sight out of mind right? It doesn't matter who suffers from it just as longs
as it is not us. I Avoid impulse purchasing and actually buy what I need to
reduce my waste and the resources used to help the environment.
And let's not forget
the fact that the cheap top was most likely made in a sweatshop with unethical
labor and dangerous work environments.
I want to
live in a world where sustainability comes before profit and consumerism does
not equal how successful a person is or what their worth is so therefore I
think before I purchase.
These are
the changes I want to see in the world and therefore these are the changes I
have made in my life during the past few years. Thank you so much for reading,
it is a bit of a different post but I have enjoyed creating it and I think no
matter what you do, always strive to be better. Because no matter the change,
big or small, it will make a difference - don't let anyone tell you otherwise,
or well.. people can say it, I just choose not to believe it.
